Project: Biogeochemistry Spin-Up Support Goal: Prepare and run long-term, coarse-resolution coupled ocean-model spinup cases in support of biogeochemistry research. Motivation: The primary motivation for this project is to support biogeochemistry research efforts. Development is needed to create the tools necessary to enable coupled ocean-model spinups forced by coupled-model output data. Authority: BGCWG Co-chair Project Leads: Nancy Norton, SE Keith Lindsay, Science Plan: I) Complete the multiday-coupling project (see owg projects) II) Generate new datasets to be used by datm and dlnd * define data requirements: o cam daily averages bundled in 365-days/file; single prec. o cam hourly averages bundled in 24hours/day; single prec. o cpl monthly averaged history files, for dlnd forcing * define cam and cpl namelist settings * define beginning and ending of 10-year segment (03100101 - 03191231, KL) * re-run a 10year segment of the T31_gx3v5 control run, b30.031yr310, with the appropriate settings to capture the output needed to support both "C" and "I" configurations III) Complete the ocean-model instability project (see owg projects) IV) Production run: 100-year run to validate choice of ocean time- stepping option and to achieve a moderately spun up physical state (L.ny.001) * confirm case requirements * set up case; review; document * bring research-version datasets into "inputdata" directory * production runs: monitor runs, process output V) Develop scientific Module OCMIP'' (science project, not CSEG) VI) Ice-model development: allow CSIM output data from Phase II to be read by dice and passed to coupler. VII) Spin up OCMIP'' + ocean/eco models with coupled-model output forcing from Phases II and VI SE Resources: I II III IV V VI VII ~ phase --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Nancy Norton 60 40 0 ~ hours Brian Kauffman 8 8 0 Jim McCaa 4 0 0 Unknown 0 0 0 0 TBD TBD Start Date: May 2004 Status: I) Completed II) Completed III) Completed: Oct 2004 IV) Start Date: 5 Oct 2004
