Project: Add data cycling to the data ocean model (docn) and thermodynamic ice model (csim) Mission: Have the ability to cycle through specified sea surface temperature datasets in CCSM runs with consistent ice cover. Goals: Perform software engineering to add data cycling capability to docn and csim in a consistent way. Have code accepted by the model developers and users so that it can be added to the repository resulting in a new capability for CCSM. Motivation: Have the capability of performing very long biogeochemical CCSM3 simulations using limited sea surface temperature datasets and consistent thermodynamic ice cover globally. This capability is required for carbon and nitrogen cycle spin up of models for C4MIP experiments. Authority: Mariana Vertenstein and John Drake Project Lead(s): Forrest Hoffman, Julie Shramm, and Brian Kauffman Implementation Plan: I. Obtain latest thermodynamic ice (csim) code and modify it to cycle through a netCDF ice dataset. II. Modify the data ocean model (docn) in a consistent way to cycle through a netCDF SST dataset. III. Verify correct operation by running models separately then together through the flux coupler. IV. Get code modifications reviewed, and make suggested changes for acceptance into head model branches. V. Check in new codes to the CVS repository.
