Project: Incorporate SiB2 (Simple Biosphere Model) surface flux and temperature solution into CLM3 Goal: SiB2 solves for - vegetation temperature and fluxes - ground temperature and fluxes - soil temperatures - canopy air space as a simultaneous system of equations. Motivation: The advantage of this approach over that currently used in CLM is that it includes prognostic canopy air space (which is necessary to include isotopes in CLM), avoids an iterative solution for vegetation temperature and fluxes, and avoids CLM's two-stage solution of first vegetation and then ground temperature and fluxes.
