Project: Couple the HYCOM ocean model with CCSM3
 
Goal:
   Allow HYCOM to be used as a research tool in the CCSM3.0 context 
   for the OWG's intercomparison studies
 
Motivation:
   Eric Chassignet has coupled a version of HYCOM to an older 
   version of the CCSM coupler, for use in ocean-only and 
   coupled ocean-ice integrations.  The OWG would like to 
   build upon this work and be able to use HYCOM as a research tool
   to explore ocean-model biases in the CCSM3.0 context.

Plan:       
   I)   Obtain HYCOM from Eric Chassignet
   II)  Scoping: analyze Eric's implementation with CCSMx
          known issues include scripts, grids, ocean history files, and
          cpl6 interface
   III) Review Tasks with Science Lead; refine plan if needed     
   IV)  Perform necessary modifications to make HYCOM
        operable in fully coupled CCSM3 (scripts, cpl6, hycom)
   V)   Test/Revise
   VI)  Provide HYCOM in CCSM3.0 to OWG for use in CSL production
        runs (instruction/support)
 
Completion Criteria:
        This project will be completed when:
           * the ccsm3 scripts support hycom (unofficial version only)
           * hycom compiles successfully on bluesky
           * hycom executes successfully for 5 days on bluesky
             coupled to the ccsm3.0 datm6, dlnd6, dice6, and cpl6 models
           * hycom can restart in the ccsm3 context
